Out for one thing only, and that's cold hard cash!  Par overheard Sumat discussing with the rest of the group about the potential to find a treasure horde in a local forest.  Ever since childhood he has been fascinated by glittering gold, and wants a horde of his own.  He would, and possibly has, sold his mother in an attempt to get rich.  Sumat knows he can trust Par to stay engaged as long as the money is flowing, but come hard times, expects him to slip away.
